Almost half a million Australian citizens and residents returned from living abroad between March and December last year, with many of those choosing not to try to replicate a “big smoke” city life. At the end of 2020, a survey by Advance.org reported that, of those expats who had returned from overseas, over a third were either “building their own business” or “working remotely for their employer” based overseas.
