This month’s image ☝️ – The saltbush (Atriplex nummularia) thrives in Australia’s semi-arid and arid regions, but can tolerate frost, severe droughts as well as periodic flooding. This extremely hardy native shrub – long valued in Aboriginal communities for its medicinal, culinary and other qualities – is increasingly popping up on trendy menus as a versatile bush food.

Meet Professors Georgina Long AO and Richard Scolyer AO, joint 2024 Australians of the Year. Inspired by their prior melanoma breakthroughs, and Richard’s own terminal brain cancer diagnosis, they are on an inspiring mission to secure better patient outcomes.
