This month’s image ☝️ – Australian Sheep. Australia stands as one of the largest wool producers globally. But did you know they are not native to Australia?! The first sheep in Australia were actually brought here with the First Fleet in 1788. It wasn’t until 1797 when the first merino sheep were brought by ship to Australia and unlike other breeds, this Spanish variety flourished amongst the Australian environment. Ultimately, this spurred the growth of our thriving wool export industry by the 1800s.
