Kampong Glam Ramadan food bazaar and Islamic heritage

March 26 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEDT

This tour focuses on the people who settled in Kampong Glam back in the day and continue to practice their Islamic traditions. As a melting pot of Bugis, Malays, Arabs and South Indians, this neighbourhood has many mosques, madrasas (schools), specialty shops, and some fabulous food options. You’ll see the Hajja Fatimah Mosque built by a wealthy woman from Malacca, and the Sultan Mosque with its golden domes and minarets. Since our tour is taking place during the holy month of Ramadan, it will be a unique opportunity to learn about the food bazaar known as “Raikan Cahaya”, meaning “celebrate the lights”. You’ll get a chance to see how this area transforms with colourful light decorations and food trucks outside Sultan Gate and enjoy local favourites at your own cost such as kebabs, nasi lemak, and sweets. You’ll also see specialty shops selling non-alcoholic perfumes and oils, as well as necessities for the pilgrimage to Mecca.
