Kindly hosted by Gilbert+Tobin, Advance put on an intimate roundtable discussion with GameChanger and Executive Manager at the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, Frances Voon.
Key points of discussion included ways to address the unprecedented rate of current rate of global displacement, ways in which Australia can commit to raising its refugee intake and the importance of a deep global mindset when addressing the issue of refugees and climate change.
The question that attendees continued to address was, ‘How do we avoid having these same conversations in ten years?’ – these conversations need to converted to real-world impact and measures. We know that discourse around policies pertaining to the size of Australia’s humanitarian intake and protection visas is rising both inside and outside of parliament, but how can we turn these words into actions?
Human displacement and climate change are issues we are all facing together, and they must be addressed as such – in a global effort, working together on a multilateral scale.
