Samallie Kiyingi is a distinguished figure in the world of finance. She holds the prestigious position of Global General Counsel at Standard Chartered Bank, overseeing Corporate, Commercial, and Institutional Banking.
Her role also extends to serving as the bank's General Counsel for Europe and the Americas, operating from her base in Singapore since October 2023. Kiyingi's career, which spans both the private and public sectors, is marked by her extensive expertise in various domains, including capital markets, structured finance, securitisation, derivatives, project finance, trade finance, funds, sustainable development, international law, risk, governance, and financial regulation.
Kiyingi's academic journey laid a strong foundation for her career. She holds a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Further enhancing her legal acumen, she is admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales, Australia, and England and Wales.
Her career trajectory began in Sydney at Ashurst (formerly Blake Dawson Waldron), where she started as a banking lawyer. Her journey then took her to London, where she served as a Senior Associate at Clifford Chance and later as the Director and Head of the Securitisation Regulatory Policy and Advisory Group at Deutsche Bank. Before her current role, Kiyingi was the Director of Legal Affairs at the African Export–Import Bank (Afrexim Bank) in Cairo, Egypt, from April 2017 to October 2023.
Born to Ugandan parents – the late Robinah Kasirye Kiyingi, a lawyer, and the late Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi, a cardiologist – Kiyingi is Australian-Ugandan.
