Backing Australians, Building Global Connections
Advance Global Australians was delighted to co-host a special evening with Cassandra Bird Gallery recently in Sydney.
Re-pats, flexpats, expats, and Australians working globally gathered for an evening of art, conversation, and community at the private viewing of Dawn Chorus by acclaimed Australian artist Gene A’Hern.
Dawn Chorus marks a pivotal moment in Gene A’Hern’s artistic practice, coinciding with his recent solo exhibition in Los Angeles and his receipt of the prestigious Sir John Sulman Art Prize from the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Attendees enjoyed an insightful discussion while sharing bespoke natural wines from Aristotelis Ke Anthoula, inspired by Mediterranean winemaking traditions and crafted on the far south coast of New South Wales.
Originally from Katoomba, Gene’s work has been showcased internationally, including Hill House at Simchowitz, Los Angeles; Color Coded at Bode Gallery, Berlin; and solo exhibitions in Copenhagen, Sydney, and Los Angeles.
Gene A’Hern, Cassandra Bird Gallery, and Fabian Jentsch have been strong supporters of Australians on the global stage, contributing to Advance Global Australian events and regularly amplifying the achievements of others in our community.
Events like this play a vital role in helping returning Australians rebuild networks, strengthen community ties, and stay connected to global conversations — ensuring that re-pats and the broader community feel supported as they continue contributing to Australia’s cultural and economic life.
As always, the evening sparked new opportunities and collaborations, with people offering support to one another — professionally and personally — in the true spirit of mateship. The evening also highlighted the power of art to inspire connection, conversation, and community.
Occasions like these are part of our not-for-profit’s mission of backing Australians around the world and reflect our commitment to connecting, empowering, and championing our people — both abroad and when they return home.
With thanks to our event partners, Cassandra Bird Gallery and Aristotelis Ke Anthoula, for making it possible.

We simply couldn’t exist without the support of our partners — and we’re incredibly grateful.
