Annette Young is an award-winning journalist and television news presenter, dedicated to shining the spotlight on the stories of women who are reshaping the world.
As the creator, producer and host of France 24’s unique current affairs program ‘The 51 Percent’, Annette has developed a global platform to showcase stories about gender equality from an intentionally feminist lens. Now in its 10th year, the program has attracted global attention and been recognised by the United Nations. Annette has been named by UN Women as one of the 20 inspirational global voices on women in the media, and in 2018 she won the gold medal in broadcast journalism in the Ricardo Ortega prize awarded by the U.N. Correspondents’ Association for her work on ‘The 51 Percent.’
Annette grew up in Adelaide and studied journalism at the University of South Australia. She was the first journalism graduate to be offered a cadetship at The Age newspaper. After a stint reporting in Canberra, Annette moved to Sydney to work for The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) and then for SBS Television. In 2000, she moved to Paris, where she worked as a freelance journalist, before heading to Jerusalem where she eventually became the Middle East correspondent for France 24 Television. In 2010, she returned to Paris as a news presenter with France 24, before launching The 51 Percent in 2013 and building the program over the past 10 years.
Annette is now a sought after moderator and keynote speaker; working with organisations such as the OECD, UN Women, INSEAD, the Women’s Forum and the Paris Peace Forum. Her trailblazing work continues to drive a new narrative for women rights, making a powerful contribution within the global discussion on gender equality.
