Tim O’Ryan serves on the Los Angeles Advisory Board.
Tim is a lawyer with over 20 years’ experience practicing in both California and Australia.
Tim was formerly a senior lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills in Sydney. Tim has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master of Laws from Sydney University. Tim also holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English Literature from the Australian Catholic University.
Tim first moved to America in 2009 when he was accepted for a clerkship on the California Court of Appeal. Tim passed the California Bar Exams in 2011 and is admitted to practice law in both California and New South Wales, Australia.
In 2022, Tim founded his law firm – O’Ryan Law – specializing in advising Australians and Australian businesses setting up and operating in America. Tim has assisted Australian businesses of all types – including Australian corporations, entrepreneurs, creatives, start-ups, and individuals – navigate the legal challenges of opening and operating a business in the United States. Tim is known as the “go to” lawyer for Australians and Australian businesses in the United States.
Tim was previously a volunteer lawyer at the Redfern Legal Centre in Sydney and the coach of the mock trial team at Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles. He has an extensive pro bono practice for indigent clients and charitable organizations. Tim currently volunteers with the Hollywood Food Coalition, providing meals to the unhoused residents of Los Angeles.
Tim knows all about the challenges and rewards of being an Australian making it in America. And he loves seeing other ambitious Australians with big dreams moving to America to make them happen. Since moving to America, Tim has provided guidance and mentorship to numerous other Australians chasing the American dream.
Tim lives in Santa Monica, Los Angeles with his rescue puppy, Eggs.
