Tony Surtees is a hands-on investor who gets involved in helping companies scale to take full advantage of changing markets. He has VP and CEO level international experience in investment, media and marketing with businesses both traditional and digital; operational and management experience in companies in the US, Asia and Australia; and active public and private board experience specialising in businesses that are undergoing disruption, rapid change, growth and changes in business model.
Tony is co-founder of Zeetings and an active investor and board member across a number of start-ups in the US and Australia.
Tony is a marketer, serial entrepreneur and hands-on board member whose specialties include real time bidding, programmatic buying, electronic and mobile commerce, online retailing, strategy and marketing in mass market consumer, B2C and B2B services.
A renowned international speaker and author, Tony was nominated by AlwaysOn in the United States as a global digital leader. His reputation as a leading authority on e-commerce, online retail and mobile commerce is well-earned, with best-selling author and entrepreneur Seth Godin describing him as ‘one of the most brilliant marketers on the scene today’.
He is on the Entrepreneurs’ Programme Investment Committee – Innovation Australia and is a member of the Advance Global Advisory Council. Tony is a former Vice President and General Manager of Yahoo!’s Commerce group at their California headquarters, responsible for 14 business units generating over US$2.5B in gross sales. He was previously Chairman of Independent Advisory Group for Australia Post’s Postzone, External Advisor for the Victorian Innovation Strategy & Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier of Victoria, and delegate to the 2020 Summit. He was also founder and CEO of iPrime, the digital arm for the Prime Television Group, developing technology and content for media businesses.
Tony has been the founder and director of both private and public companies, a mentor to start-ups, and the past NSW State President of the Australian Marketing Institute. He was Chief Operating Officer of Brandscreen.
Named as one of Australia’s Top Ten Digital Entrepreneurs by Smart Company Magazine, Tony Surtees has appeared on CNBC Asia, SkyTV and a host of Australian media.
Tony is a regular professional and guest public speaker, having addressed conferences in the US, Europe, Asia and South America, addressing numerous investment and industry forums. Tony holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UNSW and a Master of Science from the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University.
