Danushi Peiris

Danushi Peiris is set to graduate this year from Monash University where she is completing the BSc Advanced – Global Challenges (Honours) program. As part of her honours project, she is working with the Monash Sustainable Development Institute on the implementation of novel water infrastructure into informal settlements in Fiji and Indonesia. The outcomes of this project could potentially provide the basis for new water infrastructure policies and investment strategies for urban informal settlements worldwide. Alongside her studies, Danushi works at CSIRO Futures, the strategic advisory and foresight arm of Australia’s national science agency.

Passionate about driving innovation in Australia, Danushi is looking to build expertise in the nexus of business and science. Outside university, she is actively involved in the entrepreneurial landscape in Australia and overseas. Using the skills she gained studying chemistry and entrepreneurship, Danushi was part of a two-person team that designed a medical device for the treatment of anaphylaxis. In 2016, she was chosen to represent Australia at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance Summit in Beijing, China.

Danushi is dedicated to giving back to the community and has volunteered teaching English to refugees and is involved with mentoring high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. In her spare time, Danushi enjoys dancing cross a number of Latin styles including Salsa, Bachata and Argentine Tango.

Having grown up in the Middle East and travelled extensively, Danushi has a global outlook on life but is proud to call Australia home. She hopes that the Advance network will allow her to connect with talented Australians who share an interest in creating a more innovative Australia.
