Renewable energy entrepreneur Alexie Seller lives in Bangalore in India, where she co-founded the social enterprise Pollinate Energy, bringing life-changing sustainable products such as solar powered lights, water purifiers, clean cookstoves and mosquito nets to families in India’s urban slums and Nepal’s rural communities. Pollinate Energy’s sales agents (the “Pollinators”) are a unique distribution network of people, predominantly women, from disadvantaged backgrounds and remote communities who work as door-to-door sales agents or run their own retails shops and franchises. The social business empowers the Pollinators with the skills, knowledge and confidence to sell and service these quality products to communities that need them the most through affordable payment plans. The women Pollinators earn significant incomes and gain leadership skills, financial independence and respect in the household and community. In India, Pollinate Energy is impacting communities in Bangalore, Kolkota, Lucknow, Kanpur and Hyderabad, and in Nepal, in the districts of Chitwan and Kailali. Their sustainable solution currently reaches more than 4,000 families each quarter across India and Nepal, aiming to scale to reach one million people by 2020.
