Following Sarah Neal’s departure after a successful decade in the role, Malthouse Theatre’s Board of Directors is seeking a new Executive Producer to lead the company alongside Artistic Director Matthew Lutton. Reporting directly to the Board, the Executive Producer will lead Malthouse Theatre’s strategy as an iconic Melbourne cultural institution, locally and internationally engaged producing theatre company, and an active site as a cultural and community hub. The successful candidate will embody and champion Malthouse’s purpose and values, demonstrate authentic leadership, and have a deep wealth of knowledge of the performing arts and producing new work. Their leadership, strategic initiative, and excellent operational and artistic stewardship will open an exciting new chapter for this iconic company.

The Executive Producer will lead Malthouse Theatre in harmonious collaboration with the Artistic Director to set and deliver the artistic and financial targets to meet the company’s purpose. Since 2015, Malthouse Theatre’s successful collaborative leadership (co-CEO) model has acknowledged the shared executive and creative responsibilities of the Artistic Director and Executive Producer. From 2023, with the appointment of a new Executive Producer to co-lead the next phase of Malthouse’s creative and strategic evolution, the shared leadership model and executive designations (titles) will also evolve to be fit-for-purpose and we are open to explore models of designations.
