The role of our Director General Economy is an outstanding opportunity: the chance to join the top leadership team of Scottish Government and lead core public policy and services at a time of unprecedented challenge, as we recover and renew in response to the COVID pandemic. This role works at the intersection of three distinct and complex strands that will shape the Scottish economy in years to come: the recovery from Covid; navigating life outside of the EU; and decarbonising our economy in the drive to achieve net zero through the fairest means possible. Reporting directly to the Permanent Secretary, you will lead six directorates totalling 600 people and be responsible for an annual budget of c.£2.2bn. Providing trusted advice to Ministers on the economy of Scotland and the development of an economic vision, strategy and policy which will deliver a wellbeing economy is at the heart of this role, as is the need to work with key stakeholders both within and outwith the government arena to ensure all action is coherent and effective. As a member of the Executive Team, you will also provide leadership to, and be a role model for, cross-organisational aims and development. This new role is pivotal to creating a more successful country with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish through increased wellbeing and sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
