Global Readers : Stories for our young readers with Mrs Rowena Lee

LISTEN > Rowena Lee reads specially selected stories for families at home during the pandemic.

We created Advance.org #GlobalReaders for families in lockdown and we are sharing them again for our members and friends in #Melbourne and around the world.

The first series of stories are read by Rowena Lee.

About Mrs Lee

It was a love of literature and reading that originally led Rowena Lee to train as a teacher, and after a forty-year career it is this abiding interest in literacy that is guiding her next venture.

Initially trained as an early childhood teacher, Rowena subsequently completed an arts degree with majors in English literature and education, followed by post graduate qualifications educational administration.

In 1989 Rowena joined Sydney Grammar School St Ives Preparatory School as Senior Infants Mistress and in 2005 was appointed to the position of Headmaster.

Her time at Grammar was the highlighted of her professional career and Rowena considered it a privilege to work at this remarkable school with its bright, quick thinking boys and supportive school community. In the role of Headmaster, Rowena was proud to oversee the construction of a wonderful children’s library located at the heart of the School.

Now retired, Rowena wants to inspire a new generation of readers through the establishment of Middlemarch Reading and Books. She is also a literacy consultant at Macquarie University.
