Tech Central – Home of Social and Innovation Mavericks
June 9, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST
The emerging innovation district Tech Central will ‘create the biggest technology hub of its kind in Australia, expand Sydney CBD’s commercial core to the south, and enhance Central Station’s status as one of the key transport hubs in NSW’. Find out how in this future-focused session.
Tech Central will return the Central area as the heart of Sydney, harking back to the days when the district was alive with business, breweries and the bustle of Sydneysiders.
As a new economic powerhouse for Sydney, the precinct has audacious goals: to create 25,000 additional innovation jobs; attract 25,000 new students with a focus on STEM and life sciences; foster 100 new scale up companies; and boost Sydney’s industry-university innovation to make the global top 5 in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022.
Tech Central should not simply mimic what has been done overseas, by creating an Australian Silicon Valley. Instead, Tech Central should take the best of those places – their rigorous commitment to technical excellence and their ability to address real-world problems using technology – but consciously develop something new, unique and good. This means taking active steps to infuse Australian values, such as equity and fairness, into the way that new technology is developed, implemented and regulated.
Hear from experts from organisations that sit at the heart of Tech Central, such as the University of Technology Sydney, Atlassian and the Innovation Hub to see firsthand how this vision will come alive.
Join this important discussion for the future of Sydney, where visionaries and mavericks will explore their aspirations for Tech Central. Find out how it will impact and influence the future of work, jobs, and collaboration in our city, creating a new destination for the greatest innovative minds in a post-COVID world.
Presented in association with University of Technology Sydney and the Greater Sydney Commission.
