Eminent Australians to join Global Australian Awards Judging Panel

Advance is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Sir Edward Byrne AC, renowned neuroscientist, academic and clinician, and Robyn Denholm, leading global technology executive, to the judging panel for the annual Global Australian Awards.

Advance’s Chairman of the Board, Andrew Low welcomed the appointments noting, “The Global Australian Awards shine a spotlight on the amazing achievements of Australians around the world. Robyn and Ed have themselves been Australian expatriates and their outstanding success overseas has helped them to enrich Australia’s health, technology and advanced manufacturing sectors. They are superbly qualified to help us identify the next generation of Australia’s global superstars across a wide range of fields.”

Ken Allen AO, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Advance, and Chair of the Judging Panel, commented, “Robyn and Ed will bring further depth to the judging panel for Advance’s Global Australian Awards, particularly in the fields of medical science, technology and advanced manufacturing. They join a distinguished judging panel chosen for their expertise, integrity, and standing in Australia and around the world.” 

Prof Byrne and Robyn Denholm will join Ken Allen AO (Chair) and the eight members of the international judging panel: Jillian Broadbent AC, Darren Burns, Michelle Garnaut AO, Alexie Glass-Kantor, Lord Hintze AM, Bob Isherwood, Andrew N. Liveris AO and Joseph Kwok.

“It is a great privilege to work with such inspirational Australian figures as we prepare for next year’s Global Australian Awards that will be announced on 13 September 2023,“ Allen added.

Prof Byrne brings a deep understanding of healthcare and research gained through his experience on numerous company boards, and extensive career. He was recognised as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2006, Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2014, and awarded a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2020. He has also held executive positions in many leading universities.

Robyn Denholm is a passionate advocate for Australia to be a technology powerhouse, having built her career as an operator in technology and engineering companies across Australia and the US. She is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Tesla Inc., Operating Partner of Blackbird Ventures and Chair of The Technology Council of Australia. Her global experience encompasses leadership roles across leading companies, including Telstra, Juniper Networks, Sun Microsystems and Toyota.

Prof Byrne commented on his new appointment, “I am delighted to be a part of Advance’s judging panel, and humbled to join the accomplished judges with their breadth of experience geographically and across many fields.’

Robyn Denholm noted, “The Global Australian Awards each year uncover extremely talented and motivated Australians who are part of Australia’s unique offering to the world. I’m excited to get to know them and ensure their skills and expertise are recognised in Australia.”
