From the CEO

Spring is in the air in Australia. With it comes the promise of green shoots and the opportunity to begin afresh. Young ballerina Georgia Neaverson shares her journey from the stage in Warsaw to the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology Sydney. We hear about the industries being created by Main Sequence Ventures portfolio companies, that General Partner Bill Bartee says “solve a very hard problem in a very large market with a product that is difficult to replicate”. We also draw on the decades of experience from Andrew Liveris AO on what it takes to scale businesses globally and I speak to Leanne Kemp about the opportunities for global Australian entrepreneurs in Queensland. Simon Wardley opens his toolkit to show us how we can make better program investment decisions with Wardley Maps and we and took time out to “look at our cities through fresh eyes” with Lucy Turnbull AO

Gary Quinlan AO, Australia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, and one of Australia’s most highly regarded minds in foreign affairs took time to remind us of the importance of the relationship with our nearest neighbour. Foreign correspondent and most recent Washington Bureau Chief for the ABC, Zoe Daniel shared stories from the Trump White House and reflected on the power of an Australian voice and perspective interpreting and reporting on news at a local level, so that we don’t “lose our capacity to have a conversation we don’t agree with.” Speaking about career transitions, I spoke with Don’t Stop us Now Podcast hosts Claire Hatton and Greta Thomas about career transitions. Talking careers, we are major supporters of the Future of Work Summit that is taking place on-line this week. Until next time! – Maria MacNamara
