Hello friend,
As we fast approach the year end, we are buoyed by the stories (and photos!) of our members who have returned home to see family and friends for the first time in years. We are cautiously optimistic that the rollout of travel zones, and the return of international students signal the return of freer international movement in 2022.
Thank you for all your support, feedback and contributions through 2021. The Advance team will pause operations over the holiday period from December 20th to January 3rd. While recharging over these holidays here’s some recommended mind food:

AUSTRALIAN BORDERS OPEN
Together with the reduced requirements in some states/territories for returning Australians, international students started arriving in Australia this week. In addition, international safe travel zones have launched with Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and Singapore. The specific requirements and exemptions for entering Australia can be found here.
AUSTRALIA’S RELATIONS WITH CHINA
In partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and NAB, Advance arranged a roundtable in Sydney with Australia’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Graham Fletcher, to better understand Australia’s relations with China. Ambassador Fletcher, who is fluent in Mandarin, has led Australia’s diplomatic presence in Beijing since August 2019. More
OPPORTUNITIES IN SPACE
The Global Digital Space Town Hall brought together Advance members and friends from around the world to discuss Australia’s role in the space sector, with an illustrious panel of experts. The panelists shared technological developments and public and private investments underpinning the space industry, and the flow-on effects they have for many other industries. NAVIGATING THE RETURN HOME
We created the Advance #CoffeeHour to help make reintegrating back into Australian life a little easier. Advance members at a similar stage of their global journey share their experiences, and their timely tips help others prepare for the transition to Australia.
