Dr Kirby AO is a carpenter-turned-doctor whose radical career change is now saving the lives of new mothers and babies in remote communities across Papua New Guinea. The founder of not-for-profit organisation, The Hands of Rescue, Dr Kirby has dedicated the second half of his life to reducing maternal mortality across PNG, providing remote maternal health checks, training midwives and delivering ‘baby bundles’ to incentivise expectant mothers to attend health clinics for the safe delivery of their babies.
Hear Dr Kirby share the story of his inspiring work alongside his wife at The Hands of Rescue. Taking us behind the scenes, Dr Kirby discusses what his research revealed and what the practicalities are in helping mothers and babies across remote PNG. He also shares his own personal story – from a non-academic student and carpenter by trade to studying medicine in his 40’s. Dr Kirby’s is a must-listen inspirational story.
