Asia Society Policy Institute has launched an issue paper which aims to reflect on the developments in the Asia-Pacific trade landscape since 2018. It considers the short- and long-term implications and developments in 2018, including the recent escalation in the U.S.-China trade dispute, FTA activity in Asia, and the continued paralysis at the WTO, as well as looking to the challenges ahead as new technologies strain the current trading rules.

The paper is co-authored by Wendy Cutler, Vice President of the Asia Society Policy Institute and former Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative; Kim Jong-hoon, former Korean trade minister; Peter Grey, former Australian trade negotiator; Mari Pangestu, former Indonesian trade minister and Advance Asia Advisory Committee member; Yoichi Suzuki, former Japanese ambassador and trade negotiator; and Tu Xinquan, Dean of the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.
