Ken Allen AM
Chairman Emeritus

Ken Allen is currently a Senior Advisor to UBS Asia Pacific and Lexington Partners, Chairman of Talent2, Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Chair Emeritus of Advance, the world's leading network of Australian professionals and entrepreneurs abroad. Prior to returning to Sydney in April 2006, Ken was the Australian Consul General in New York, representing Australia's interests in the United States and deepening the investment, commercial, cultural and sporting links between the two countries. Ken's major focus was the positioning of Australia as a global financial centre and he played an active role in the signing of the Australis / US Free Trade Agreement.

Graduating from the University of Adelaide with an Honours Degree in Economics, Ken joined Unilever and worked in Sydney and London in various marketing roles, before joining Slater Walker Australia. Ken started his banking career with the World Bank in Washington DC, later moving to New York with Merrill Lynch where he was responsible for establishing their investment bank in Australia, pre-empting his subsequent role with Lehman Brothers overseeing a similar strategic move. In 1991, Ken joined County NatWest and more recently, he was a Senior Director with Macquarie Bank.

Ken has served on the Boards of the NSW Treasury Corporation, the State Bank of New South Wales, the Film Finance Corporation of Australia, Omnicom, Australia Post and The China Institute in New York. He became a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the business and finance sectors, to international relations, and to the community through fundraising for charitable organisations. Ken was a Pilot Officer in the RAAF, University of Adelaide Squadron. Ken and his wife, Jill, have three sons and eight grandchildren

Christopher Aitken
Board Member (former President), San Francisco, United States

Chris Aitken is the Executive Vice President of Corporate Development with LECG Corporation (NASDAQ:XPRT), a leading global expert services firm that provides independent expert testimony and analysis, original authoritative studies, and strategic advisory services. He has more than ten years of experience addressing corporate and business unit strategy issues with a particular focus on customer profitability and retention, product/service portfolio optimization, and market entry strategy. He also has extensive experience advising senior management teams on customer relationship management issues, business process improvements, and business issues. His clients have ranged from Fortune 500 to start-up organizations in the professional services, financial services, high technology, and pharmaceutical sectors.
 
Prior to joining LECG, Chris held partner-level roles at Andersen and BearingPoint, (formerly known as KPMG Consulting), where he led each firm’s strategy consulting practice in the United States. Before Andersen, he was an Associate Lecturer in the School of Information Systems at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia).
 
Chris holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) in Information Systems and Finance from the University of New South Wales where he graduated with first class honours and was awarded the University Medal.


Rosalind Coffey
Secretary, Hong Kong     SAR, People's Republic of China 

Rosalind Coffey is based in Hong Kong     as Managing Director of Human Resources for Nomura, a position she undertook after moving from HR Director at Barclays Capital, New York, following the purchase of Lehman Brothers’ US business in September 2008. Prior to this Ros was Global Human Resources Director for Principal Investing, Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Audit, Expense & Sourcing Services, Change Management and Global Data Management divisions of Lehman Brothers. She had responsibility for a global client base of approximately 3,500 individuals in all aspects of human capital management, career development, training and performance management.

Ros joined Lehman Brothers in 2002 as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Finance Division, reporting directly to the then Chief Financial Officer, Dave Goldfarb. In this role she was responsible for working with groups such as Technology, Facilities, Human Resources, Recruiting, Leadership & Learning and Corporate Security to service the Finance division. She served as the “right hand” to the Chief Financial Officer for all organizational issues relating to the Finance Division and was responsible for the global Finance business plan and budget.

Her role in the organizational management of the division included implementing a global career mobility program, creating a training and development program, advancing the Finance full-time and summer Analyst programs, enhancing global communication and building a strong culture of feedback and performance management.

Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Ros was the Director of the Financial Services practice of Michael Page International, a leading global executive recruitment firm. She was a founding member of Michael Page International’s New York operation, and had complete responsibility for building this business from its inception. Her clients covered all facets of the financial services sector including investment banks, broker dealers, brokers, insurance firms, wholesale banks, asset managers and private banks.

Earlier in her career Ros worked at Salomon Brothers, London and Esso, Australia. She spent two years traveling throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Ros holds a Bachelor of Economics degree with Majors in Accounting, Economics and Commercial Law from The University of Sydney, Australia.
 
 

Dr. John Cullity
Board Member, National Representative Advance Life Science Network, New York

John is a Principal at Torreya Partners, a boutique advisory firm in the life sciences sector providing services in M&A, licensing, and financing services. Most recently he was Senior Director of Business Development at sanofi-aventis Pharmaceuticals in Bridgewater, New Jersey where he co-ordinated sanofi-aventis’ business development activities in oncology, diabetes, CNS and rheumatology. During his tenure, John identified assets leading to transactions with net value of approximately $1 billion. Building on his considerable interest in the venture capital and private equity sectors, John established working relationships with leading US-based life science venture and private equity firms. Prior to that, John led sanofi aventis’ strategic pricing department assuming responsibility for price management of the company’s $US15 billion market portfolio including brands such as Plavix, Lovenox, Ambien, Eloxatin, Taxotere and Lantus. Additionally he was responsible for placing provisional price points on developmental assets in Phase 2-3 settings. John founded the strategic pricing unit and directed oncology health economics at Schering-Plough. He has also worked for AT Kearney Management Consulting, The World Bank, World Health Organization and, over a five year period, as a clinician at teaching hospitals both in the UK and Australia.
 
John holds an M.B.A. from Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, M.Sc. (Econs) from London School of Economics, Internal Medicine Boards from the Royal College of Physicians UK, and received his primary medical degree from the University of Western Australia.
 
  
Elena douglasElena Douglas
Board Member, Perth, Australia

Elena was the founding Chief Executive Officer of Advance and was the first employee of Advance. She joined Advance in March 2003 when there were 500 members of Advance principally in the New York region. Since that time Advance has grown to the leading network of Australian professionals overseas with over 20,000 members and local chapters across the United States, Europe and Asia. 
 
Prior to joining Advance, Elena was one of the founders of BlueSkyFrog Australian pioneers in SMS entertainment and marketing. She was responsible for securing venture and mezzanine capital and also for developing the consumer and media business before its ultimate sale to Vodafone. Elena led Elena Pasquini & Associates, a boutique consulting firm servicing corporate and government clients and prior to this was a consultant in the National Consulting Group of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
 
Elena was also an independent film producer in Australia and had success with several short films which enjoyed strong international festival screenings including the Canadian International Film Festival, The St Kilda Film Festival, The Hawaii International Film Festival and the London Film Festival. Parlami D’Amore which Elena wrote and produced received Best Short Drama: ATOM Awards, Best Producer and Best Writer: Western Australian Screen Awards.

Elena has a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Western Australia
and in 1996 Elena was one of 15 young Australians awarded the Vincent Fairfax Ethics
Leadership Award. Elena was also an ADC Future Summit Leadership Awardee and was the creator of the Catherine McCauley Award for Leadership and Service.

  Serafina Maiorano    
  Chief Executive Officer, New York, United States
 
Serafina was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Advance in January 2008. In many ways she presents as a snapshot of the organisation's mission: global experience and a global outlook, with roots in Australia but connections across the world.

Serafina has brought to Advance a diversified and impressive professional skill base and an international reach. Since joining Advance the organisation's membership has increased from 10,000 to over 20,000 and reached out to establish a presence in the Asia region. Currently living in New York, she has lived in Australia, Italy and Dubai, and developed projects in London, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Singapore.
 
Prior to joining Advance, Serafina worked in the field of management and HR consultancy in Dubai, where she managed mentoring, leadership and employment reform programs. Over a number of years, Serafina also worked as an arts producer and manager in new media, performance, public art and festivals, developing, presenting and touring innovative cultural and arts programs to national and international audiences. In its many facets her work has involved showcasing dynamic Australian talent and 'know how' abroad, and facilitating Australian innovation to global markets.

She has held Board and Committee positions with the Adelaide Fringe Inc, Australia's largest multi art festival and second largest Fringe in the world; the Australian Network for Art and Technology, Australia's peak network for artists working with science and technology; the South Australian Women's Advisory Council; and the Council for Italians Abroad in South Australia, an official Italian Government representative body for global Italian diaspora. In 2004 she received an Australia Council award to undertake international cultural partnership research in USA, Mexico and UK.

Serafina has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Adelaide, and Honours Degree in Italian Language and Literature from Flinders University, a Diploma in European Economics from the Foreign University of Perugia in Italy, and a Graduate Diploma in Management (Arts) from the University of South Australia. 
 
Adrian Turner
President, San Francisco, United States


Adrian Turner is currently President of Advance. Prior to being elected into his current role, Adrian served as Vice President of Advance for two years, and San Francisco Regional Chair for two years prior to that.

Adrian is also CEO of Mocana Corporation, which he co-founded. Mocana launched in mid 2004 and has since grown to become the leading security company securing non-PC devices, or the "Internet of Things". Today the "Internet of Things" represents a $900B ecosystem, growing twice as fast as the PC market. Mocana's software is currently used by companies like Cisco, Motorola, Siemens, Panasonic, Intel, Samsung, Nokia Siemens, Honeywell and more than a hundred others to secure everything from satellite communications systems, to medical devices, industrial equipment, consumer electronic devices and mobile phones. Mocana was recently named one of the Top100 privately held companies by RedHerring magazine. Prior to founding Mocana Adrian had P&L responsibility for developing infrastructure to support Philips Electronics’ (NYSE:PHG) connected consumer and business devices. Adrian began his career in Australia working in the media sector with Newscorp (NYSE: NWS) and retail sector with OPSM (ASX:OPS.AX).

Adrian holds a business degree in Marketing and Finance from the University of Technology in Sydney Australia and has completed the Executive Program for Managing Growth Companies at Stanford University.

  
Gene van Grecken
Board Member and CTO, Sydney, Australia

Gene van Grecken is the Director of Application Development – ANZ at iSOFT Group Limited providing technical leadership for the technology teams based in the Australia and New Zealand region and responsibility for iSOFT’s global applications deployed in the region.

Prior to joining iSOFT, Gene was Vice President of Technology at Travelocity.com LP based in the USA, with responsibility for Travelocity's North American retail site, media, and the social travel site, IgoUgo. In this position, Gene led the technology development of these web and offline systems, for Travelocity's brands globally including lastminute.com in Europe and Zuji in Asia Pacific. 

Gene has over fifteen years of experience in leading software development teams and providing technical direction for several organisations. His experience includes founding a company that built trading systems for various financial derivative instruments. Gene holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from University of Technology and a Masters of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University both in Sydney, Australia.
 

Derek Youdale
Treasurer, New York, United States


Derek is a Managing Director at JP Morgan Chase and is the technology CFO for the Retail Business. He also manages the technology groups program and business management functions from his New York base. Derek has worked previously at the firm’s Investment Bank, Wealth Management, Corporate and Treasury Services divisions in various technology and non technology related finance / project management roles. He joined the bank in 1997 in London. Before he moved to London he worked at Price Waterhouse in Sydney.
 
Derek has traveled extensively to around 60 countries for both pleasure and work. He currently resides in New York.
 
Derek holds a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Technology, Sydney and was admitted to the Australia Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1996.
