Keynote Speaker: Andrew Butcher - As former chief spokesman for News Corporation in New York, Victoria's Andrew Butcher has come a long way from his start as a copyboy for the Melbourne Sun. Recently returned to Australia and now director of international communications for Telstra, Andrew will share his insights on his work in New York and back home in Melbourne with two of Australia's most famous companies.

Melbourne: Revolving Doors - The Ins and Outs for Global Australians

Victorians Abroad was launched at Advance’s Revolving Doors networking event on 9 April in Melbourne. An enthusiastic crowd gathered to share stories about their overseas experiences with those about to follow their paths. The stunning panoramic views from the 46th floor of the ANZ tower provided a great backdrop for a performance by the acclaimed Tin Alley String Quartet and the official speeches.
The Minister for Industry and Trade, Theo Theophanous, launched the Victorians Abroad project. He highlighted the value the Government places on the international experience gained by Australian professionals and introduced the keynote speaker, Andrew Butcher, Director of International Communications for Telstra. Andrew entertained and inspired the crowd with colourful stories of his time as Chief Spokesperson for News Corporation in New York. [More...]
Sydney: Shining Stars and National Treasures - Launch of Revolving Doors Series in Sydney

Advance was pleased to host the first of our Revolving Doors events in Sydney on Thursday 30th August at the Mitchell Library. Regina Sutton, CEO of the State Library, an expat herself, welcomed the group and offered some reflections on the value of a network for returning Australians. Held in the Friends Room at the Mitchell Library, guests were treated to a display of rare treasures of the library, including William Bligh’s journal during Mutiny on the Bounty and the original manuscript of Dorothy McKellar’s I Love A Sunburnt Country (then called Core of My Heart).
In addition to viewing the national treasures, guests enjoyed a presentation by one of Australia’s shining stars in the world of advertising, Matt Eastwood, currently National Creative Director/Vice Chairman of DDB Australia. [More...]

Russell Reynolds Associates, in conjunction with Advance - Global Australian Professionals, hosted an "Old World vs. New World Wines" tasting evening in New York on Tuesday September 25th 2007. The event was for senior financial services professionals interested in networking with their peers, along with one of the strongest financial services practice groups in the Australian executive search industry.

London - Financial Services Wine Tasting Event
Russell Reynolds Associates, in conjunction with Advance - Global Australian Professionals, hosted an "Old World vs. New World Wines" tasting evening in London on Monday September 24th 2007. The event was for senior financial services professionals interested in networking with their peers, along with one of the strongest financial services practice groups in the Australian executive search industry.
The London event was attended by around 35 senior financial services professionals from the London network. Heidi Mason from Russell Reynolds, Sydney, gave an introductory speech. Guests were then masterfully guided through a selection of French and Australian wines by Brett Jones from The Wine Maestro. On Wednesday, June 13 2007, 45 Australians gathered for a pleasant evening of wine tasting and networking, held at the Tower Wine Club, on the penthouse floor of the Republic Plaza in the heart of the central business district in Singapore. With a stunning backdrop of panoramic floor-to-ceiling views over Singapore and out to sea, attendees went for “A Taste Around Australia”, led by Arjen Blom of Asian Wine Connection, taking in wines from Western Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia.

On Thursday, June 14, 2007, 55 Australians from the financial services industry braved a determined mid-summer’s thunderstorm and headed to The China Club, in the Old Bank of China Building, one of Hong Kong’s historic landmarks. In a cosy, wood-paneled room, surrounded by paintings and works of art by contemporary Chinese artists, attendees had the chance to taste wines from several boutique wineries in South Australia, guided by Adelaide Cellardoor’s Jess Harris.
